www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday August 1, 2008 - 5 Car show rustles up hundreds of classic Ford Mustangs Ford Mustang enthusiasts from across North America are descending on Oakville this weekend. Hundreds of classic mustangs will be available for viewing at the No Borders InterNationals Mustang Show hosted by the Golden Horseshoe Mustang Association. "It's a big deal," said Oakville resident George O'Hearn, vice president and show committee co-chair of the Golden Horseshoe Mustang Association. Running from Aug. 1-3, the show is billed the largest ever all-years Mustang show in Canada. It's also a first in Canada. The local club, along with Ford of Canada and the Mustang Club of America (MCA), is hosting the the first MCA national level show ever held outside the continental United States. "MCA holds five major shows each year in the U.S., however we are privileged to be holding the first MCA national level show ever held outside the continental U.S. It's also the first show of its kind ever held on Ford property," said O'Hearn, a Nova Scotia native, who has made his home in Oakville for nearly 40 years. Nearly 500 of the cars that coined the term pony cars -- a class of car launched and inspired by the Ford Mustang in 1964 -- will be on display at the show, more than half from other provinces in Canada and from 20 U.S. states. Cars are coming from British Columbia, Florida, Texas, the Maritimes, a large contingent from Québec, Manitoba and elsewhere. There will also be the local vendors and a presence from sponsors such as Kennedy Ford and Oakland Ford Lincoln. The show will also sponsor a special Cruise Night at Hopedale Mall on Aug. 1 from 6:30-9 p.m. hosted by the Lions Club of Oakville. The No Borders InterNationals Mustang Show is open only to Mustangs, however the Cruise Night at Hopedale will welcome Mustangs as well as all makes of classics and cruisers from the 1940s, '50s, '60s and '70s. The show is free for spectators, as is parking on site. On Friday, Aug. 1, registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the day's events will include Mary Jean's Mystery Cruise, vendor set up, classification and the mixer. On Saturday, there will again be registration, vendors, judging and the banquet. Sunday, the show will wrap up with judging and an awards ceremony at noon.
