"This exciting new service will bring a wide range of enjoyable listening content to the bedside, rounding out the entertainment options currently available to patients and their families during their hospital stay," said Bonnie Harrow, vice-president of Support Services at HHS. "A good book or a favourite piece of music can certainly make a hospital stay more pleasant and may help inspire recovery." Patients or their families can order an audio book, a music player styled with their favourite music or a custom designed listening package (styled with music and literature content) geared specifically to their interest. To place an order, patients or family members simply call Grigorian Entertainment directly at 416-6284812 or drop off their order form in a Grigorian drop box on their patient care unit. A Grigorian representative delivers their order promptly the next day. "We make a real effort to individualize the listening content for patients in order to maximize their entertainment value. For this reason, we spend time discussing the order selection with the individual to make sure we fully understand their listening needs and interests," explains Liz Coulson of Grigorian Entertainment. A portion of the revenue for this service will be used to support health and wellness programs for hospital staff. Local hair stylists join Be a Breast Friend project Local hair stylists are teaming up to deliver an important message about breast cancer as part of a pilot project co-sponsored by the Halton Region Health Department. The women at salons throughout Halton are spreading the word that the early detection of breast cancer can save lives through the `Be a Breast Friend' project. "Knowing a few simple facts about regular screening through mammograms lets us promote current and credible health messages that can make a real difference to our clients," said project participant Joanne Guarini of First Choice Haircutters in Milton. The initiative aims to raise awareness levels about breast cancer and encourage women to have breast screening on a regular basis. Women over 50 should have a mammogram at least every two years. "Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women in Ontario," said Halton Medical Officer of Health Dr. Bob Nosal. "Early detection of breast cancer improves treatment options and survival." The `Be a Breast Friend' project, initiated by health units throughout central west Ontario, has been providing information to hair stylists about the importance of early detection of breast cancer through regular screening. The stylists then pass along the knowledge to their clients. Breast screening is free for Ontario women aged 50 and over by calling the Ontario Breast Screening Program at 1-800668-9304. No referral from a physician is necessary to access the program. KNEE, HEEL & ARCH PAIN ARE TREATABLE! Understanding the source of your foot and knee pain could lead to permanent relief.
