"My last movie was Hairspray, I don't do that much anymore. I'm more focused now on marketing the winery," said Malivoire. Admitting he still stops by "for a cup of tea with Mom and Dad" about once a week, Malivoire has become financially successful in not only the movie business, but also real estate development and as a venture capitalist investing in other small businesses. It was in the mid 1970s that Malivoire became interested in wine and began travelling in various wine regions to increase his knowledge and to add to his personal wine cellar. He spent his free time taking a closer look at potential vineyard properties available. He bought a vineyard in Beamsville -- the Moira Vineyard in 1995 and he and his better half saw their first harvest in 1996. Malivoire said he and his wife (who he met in a bar on a date set up by mutual friends) wanted to pursue a cottage- Fall Indoor Soccer - Register Now! country-type of lifestyle, but preferred a home with a vineyard. Mark Labour Day for marathon The second annual edition of the Labour Day Oakville Half and 10K marathon will lead runners on some of the town's most beautiful landscapes. Participants will wind their way through quaint old neighbourhoods and the beautiful downtown core to the stunning waterfront and gorgeous marinas. This year's course has changed to encompass Linbrook Avenue, which showcases some beautiful homes and St. Mildred's-Lightbourn Girls School. Runners will also now experience all of Bronte Harbour. Both the Half Marathon (21.1km) and the 10K courses will start and finish in and around Coronation Park. "The course changes will eliminate some of the elevation from last year," said Joe Hewitt, race director. "Getting rid of this incline will make the course faster and give runners a better opportunity to achieve a personal best time. The change will also move the start lines closer together, creating a more festive atmosphere," said Hewitt. In addition to the course changes, a new event has also been added; a 2K Family Fun Run/Walk. This new course is located within the park and is geared toward recreational or beginner runners/walkers as well as children. "There are so many families that would like to participate and the 2K is a great way to include everyone in the festivities, the whole family will be able to go home with a medal," said Hewitt. A one-day Runners Expo and post-race entertainment are also scheduled as part of the weekend of activities. A separate walking category in both the Half and the 10K ensures that participants of all abilities can compete in this great event. Also new for 2008, the Labour Day Oakville Half will welcome custom home designer and builder Prince Bay Luxury Homes as the title sponsor of the 10K event. Registration is open online at www.oakvillehalfmarathon.com. Participants can also call 905-949-1910, ext. 235 for more information. Pledges raised from the event will support the Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada and the Oakville YMCA. Partnership opportunities are still available and interested parties are encouraged to contact Landmark Sport Group, the event organizer, for more information.
