WEDNESDAY QUARTER-FINALS Glace Bay 4, Community Park 1 Mitchell Campbell belted a pair of solo homers to lead the Atlantic champions into the semifinals. After his team fell behind 1-0, Mitchell homered in the fourth and again in the sixth. Robert Barrett earned the win for Glace Bay, going five-plus innings, allowing only three hits, one run and striking out eight. Campbell then came on in relief, recording the final five outs while surrendering only one hit to earn the save. The loss eliminated Edmonton's Community Park, who got two hits from Kyle Harris. Whalley 10, NDG Lynx 7 Whalley remained undefeated in six games at the championship, earning a spot in the final by beating Montreal's NDG Lynx 10-7. Adam Quan hit two home runs to give Whalley a 4-0 lead through two innings but NDG took advantage of some uncharacteristic bad fielding by Whalley to score five times in the third inning. It marked the first time in the tournament Whalley had trailed in a game. That didn't last long, though.The B.C. squad scored twice in the bottom half of the inning, added three more in the fourth and another in the sixth. Chris Brien was 4-for-4 and drove in three runs for Whalley while Quan also had three RBIs. Danillo Cardoza and Jonathan Pendenza were each 2-for-4 with two RBIs for NDG, the only team to score a run against Whalley in the tournament. THURSDAY SEMIFINAL Glace Bay vs. NDG The semifinal game between the Atlantic and Quebec champions was delayed three hours to prepare the field. Results were not available at press time. Whalley pitchers have thrown shutouts in four of their six games with Quebec's NDG Lynx being the only team to score on them in the tournament. Whalley has also been strong at the plate, outscoring its opponents 75-10, led by Atkinson, who is batting .571 in the tournament with 11 runs scored. Whalley will play either Glace Bay or the NDG Lynx in the final Friday at 2 p.m. at River Oaks Park. GREAT AMBASSADORS: The Oakville Fusion Boys Under-16 C soccer team won the Ambassador Cup in Kingston, winning both the semifinal and final in penalty kicks. Team members are: Diego Armas, Justin Novakowski, Tom Hale, Christian Klarer, Francesco Stalteri, Bruce Ramsay, Paterson Farrell, Marc Young Lai, Johan Israelian, Paul DiCesare, Kenny Edwards, Colin McKennan, Chris Smith, Milan Marjanovich and Omar Hamadi. Missing were Stephen Missiuna and Daniel Merino. The team is coached by Doug Ramsay and David Edwards. Fusion unbeatable in Kingston Paterson Farrell scored on the 10th penalty kick as the Oakville Fusion Boys Under-16 C soccer team edged the Seaway Valley Blazers to win the championship at the Ambassador Cup in Kingston. Farrell's goal gave Oakville a 4-3 victory in penalty kicks after neither side was able to score in regulation or in extra time. It was the second straight win in penalty kicks for the Fusion. Oakville also won its semifinal game over the Cataraqui Clippers (D). Like the final, the game was scoreless through regulation, although this time it went straight to penalties. Knotted a 4-4, Omar Hamadi scored on the 12th penalty kick to give the Fusion the victory and send them to the final. The tournament was reduced to a one-day event after storms wiped out the Saturday games. The weather cleared on Sunday, allowing the teams to play shortened games. Oakville opened with a pair of 2-0 victories over the Cataraqui Clippers (R) and Seaway Valley. Milan Marjanovich, Bruce Ramsay, Christian Klarer and Tom Hale scored for the Fusion. Oakville tied the Mount Hamilton Avalanche in its final roundrobin game to secure first place in its division and earn a trip to the semifinals. Keeper Diego Armas, with help from his his defence -- Justin Novakowski, Hale, Klarer and Francesco Stalteri -- did not allow a single goal, posting five consecutive shutouts.
