Gallagher, who has led the local for 12 years, was re-elected to another four-year term when ballots were counted on Aug. 7. "I am very pleased with the strong mandate that members of Local 793 have given to myself, the officers and executive board of our union," he said. "We will ensure that this union continues to progress and remains healthy and on stable financial footing into the future." "I am honoured members across the province have once again put their faith in our leadership and we will continue to work on the issues important to Local 793 such as health and safety, organizing and negotiating good settlements," said Gallagher. Gallagher took over as business manager of the union on Dec. 17, 1996. Prior to that, he was a business representative and then labour relations manager with the local. He is active on numerous Mike Gallagher committees and advisory boards dealing with issues such as health and safety, pensions and apprenticeship. Gallagher is also an international trustee with the IUOE and a pastpresident of the Construction Safety Association of Ontario. The following were also elected or acclaimed to Local 793 executive positions: Gary O'Neill, president; Alex Law, vice president; Richard Kerr, recording/corresponding secretary; John Anderson, financial secretary; and, Joseph Redshaw, treasurer. The executive board includes: Wendy Catherwood; Joe Dowdall; Bob Giles; Brian Madigan; Bob McQueen; and, Bill Thompson. Auditors are William Boyle, Steve Deady and John Monti while trustees are Catherwood; Ron Hillis and Bob Turpin.
