Vol. 47 No. 97 Always All that jazz the risk By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Could it happen here? That's the question many people across the GTA and throughout Canada are asking after a Toronto propane plant exploded early Sunday morning sending a volcanic blast into the air and nearby residents fleeing from their homes. In Oakville's case, the question of whether this could happen here was answered about 30 years ago with a definitive `yes.' Police round up bullets By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF The Halton Regional Police Service is attempting to grab up all the lead-free training ammunition it can after receiving news that an international shortage of the sought after bullets could soon limit the supply available. In a report to the Halton Police Services Board, on Friday, Police Chief Gary Crowell noted that he had authorized the purchase of 500,000 rounds of training ammunition for a total expenditure not to exceed $108,593. "This acquisition was an over-expenditure of the Training Bureau approved budget," said Crowell in the report.
