The Halton Regional Police Service still has spots available for its upcoming Citizen Police Academy. The free program runs from 7-10 p.m. every Tuesday between Sept. 9 and Nov. 25. Each week includes presentations on various aspects of policing including: recruiting, hostage negotiations, homicide investigation and the use of forensic technology, a day in the life of a patrol officer, criminal investigations and drug enforcement, the communications bureau and the use of 9-1-1, public complaints process and internal affairs, the court system, fraud investigation, Crime Stoppers, the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Bureau (CASA), ethnic diversity in policing, the police training unit and the police budget. The citizens academy began in 2002. Sessions are held in the spring and fall. All classes are held at the Halton Regional Centre, 1151 Bronte Rd., in Oakville. Post Inn Village hosts antique car show Aug. 28 The Post Inn Village will once again host an Antique and Classic Car Show this year. The show will take place Aug. 28 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Post Inn parking lot, 203 Georgian Dr. and will include live entertainment by Go Freddie Go, an Elvis rock and roll show, a barbecue sponsored by the Willow Foundation, awards, '50s and '60s trivia, refreshments, a 50/50 draw, raffle and face painting. Last year, the show attracted more than 300 people and it turned out to be an international one as 15 cars entered from the United States. Like last year, the show will conclude with the Halton Regional Police escorting the antique cars through the community. The Regional Municipality of Halton It's Our Own Garbage The Joint Board under the Consolidated Hearings Act gave under the Environmental Assessment Act was included and a Condition 1 of the approval is as follows: For more than a decade, the Regional Municipality of Halton A great deal of money was spent in the search, and residents of 1987 and 1988 a Hearing was held by the Consolidated Hearing Board established by the Environmental Assessment Board and Regional Corporation was responsible for disposing of waste, it was not alone responsible for waste reduction, reuse and that the Regional Corporation enter into agreements with the Municipalities of the Region to establish a Municipal-Regional Waste Management Committee having as its goal the reduction, recycling and reuse of waste so that there will be very little waste twice a year the Committee should attempt to reach the goal through measures including but not limited to: b) promotion of individual, private and public composting c) provision of glass and metal recycling facilities for residential, apartment and commercial establishment waste, including provision of reception areas for packaging materials at point d) development of measures to encourage retail outlets to reduce to the maximum extent possible "disposable" items and packaging materials, including fast-food packaging and f) consideration and development of mandatory recycling programs which include rewards and penalties for compliance Once each year the Regional Municipality shall report on the participation of local Municipalities and the extent of cooperation and progress on the work of this Committee in full-page advertisements in the newspapers having general circulation in each of the Region's constituent Municipalities, under the headline Joint Municipal-Regional Waste Management Committee The Committee is composed of members from the Local Municipalities of Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville and assists Material Diverted in 2007 by the Residents of Halton Region The following programs from 2007 will help achieve Halton Region's 60% waste diversion goal: Promotion & Education Waste Diversion Programs schools, community groups and apartments reaching 19,500 people and open houses eyeglass, natural cork and electronics recycling subdivisions Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Depot Special Events A Report describing compliance with all the Conditions of Approval under the Environmental Assessment Act or if you have any comments or suggestions, please www.halton.ca/waste 150808
