www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday August 15, 2008 - 23 Police looking for auxiliary officers The Halton Regional Police Service is looking for people interested in becoming auxiliary officers. The Auxiliary Policing Unit has been in Halton since 1989. Auxiliary officers receive more than 100 hours of training, including legal training in powers of arrest, ethics, traffic direction and use of force training. Members of the unit are used to augment the activities of regular police officers at annual special events such as fall fairs, Christmas parades sand the Oakville Waterfront Festival. Auxiliary officers often accompany police constables on general patrol duties. The first phase of the selection process, which consists of general aptitude testing, is planned for midSeptember and will continue until the end of that month. Applicants will receive a written invitation, which outlines their testing date, time and location. For more information, or to speak to current auxiliary members, attend an information night on Thursday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. at Halton police headquarters, Community Room, 1151 Bronte Rd. Those who have recently submitted an application need not reapply. Applications must be received by Friday, Aug. 22. For more information on the minimum requirements for applicants, visit the service's website at www.hrps.on.ca.
