www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday August 15, 2008 - 41 McDream come true U13 Avalanche smothers opposition at Gloucester soccer tournament Riding the momentum it gained by winning the Clarkson International Soccer Tournament two months ago, the Oakville Avalanche under-13 boys' rep squad dominated the competition at last weekend's Gloucester International tournament. The Avalanche won all five of its games without surrendering a single goal, scoring 25 of its own in the process. Oakville rolled over the Cumberland Cobras 7-0, blanked Montreal's Lakeshore Soccer Club 5-0 and downed the host Gloucester Hornets 4-0 to reach the semis, where it defeated Kingston United 3-0. In the title contest, the Avalanche continued its domination with a 6-0 win over Lakeshore. Tyler Burns earned most valuable player honours for Oakville, a difficult award to decide upon with a team that plays so well as a group. Burns, a centre forward, was selected for his scoring abilities as well as his unselfish play and teamwork. Keeper Sebastian Sciarra (who recorded all five shutouts), centre defender Ryan Burns and centre midfielder Chris Bogias were also candidates for the award. Other members of the Avalanche are Dylan Richardson, Sebi Smakosz, Keiran Stevenson, Daniel Capstick, Scott Mackie, Matthew Dingwall, Michael Panza, Jon-Anthony Cangemi, Scott Birkbeck, Sean Delacourt, Rodrigo Mercado and Michael Sahai. Nick Bogias and Paul Delacourt coach the team, which is managed by Lori Stevenson. ON THE FIELD: A group of Oakville Soccer Club players was treated to a dream opportunity recently, taking the field with Toronto FC players before Toronto's game against Pachuca in the Carlsberg Cup last month at BMO Field. The opportunity was courtesy of McDonald's In The Line Up contest.Youngsters joined the Toronto FC players on the field for the player introductions and national anthems, enjoyed the game together as a team and received a Toronto FC t-shirt as a keepsake from the experience.
