The Canadian duo had worked its way up to fifth in the overall standings after winning the second of two races on Sunday. However, Monday's races dropped Johansson and Stittle three places in the standings with just three races remaining before the medal race. One bad race would not have hurt the Canadians' chances. Each crew can drop its worst result of its 10 races. Crews accumulate points based on their finishing position (one for first, two for second, etc.) and standings are determined by the lowest total score. After seven races, Spain and Australia each had 20 points to share the lead, while Greece was third with 32. Johansson and Stittle were eighth with 41. The top 10 crews qualify for the medal race, which will be held tomorrow (Thursday). Point totals are doubled for that race. Johansson and Stittle should qualify, but would have to win that race to have a shot at a bronze medal. Johansson and Stittle started strongly with a thirdplace finish on Saturday in the second race. That moved them up to fifth overall and they remained in the top six until Sunday.
