38 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday August 29, 2008 www.oakvillebeaver.com Skate and equipment sale Sept. 13 The Minor Oaks MOMS have a new teammate this year for their annual skate and equipment sale. The Oakville Hornets Girls Hockey Association has joined up with Minor Oaks for this year's sale, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Frozen Ropes baseball training centre. The event helps offset the escalating prices of hockey equipment by allowing families the opportunity to purchase gently-used equipment at discounted prices. Skates, shin pads, hockey pants, elbow pads and shoulder pads will be available for sale, along with goalie gear, sticks and jerseys. Families wishing to sell their gently-used equipment can drop off items Friday, Sept. 12 from 6-9:30 p.m. Equipment experts will help sellers price the items for sale. Items are sold on a consignment basis, with a percentage of proceeds going to support local hockey programs, and there is a $1 processing fee for each item. Donations of unsold gear are greatly appreciated and will be given to children's groups in need of hockey equipment. The MOMS will only accept items in good condition and reserve the right to decline equipment that does not meet their standards. The MOMS cannot accept helments or jocks/jills for sale, but helmets may be donated. Frozen Ropes owner and Minor Oaks MOM Lee Currie donated the space for the sale. Frozen Ropes is located at 2009 Wyecroft Rd. (the northwest corner of Wyecroft and Third Line). BOUNCE BACK: The Oakville Girls Softball Association midget house league Teal squad overcame a forfeit loss in its first game to win the championship at a recent GTA tournament in Mississauga. Midget girls rebound for softball title Labour Day S ALE No Payments & No Interest For 12 Months An unfortunate start to a GTA girls' softball tournament in Mississauga wasn't enough to deter a local team from winning the championship. The Oakville Girls Softball Association midget house league Teal squad, sponsored by Dr. Stephen Phelan, overcame a forfeit loss in its opening game to win its next four contests and claim the title at the double-elimination competition. Oakville led its first game after six innings, but the contest was suspended due to lightning. Since Oakville could not field a team when the game was resumed the following evening, it surrendered a forfeit. The team bounced back with three straight wins to reach the final, where it jumped to an early 7-0 lead and cruised to a 12-5 victory over the Mississauga Tigers. Coaches Larry Shorter, Will Kastelic and Randy Beaver were impressed with the way their team maintained a positive attitude, despite the controversial start. Members of the team are Jodi Banks, Erin Beaver, Jackie Bryant, Karolyn Carnie, Amanda de Sousa, Alex Heggum, Kristen Kastelic, Amanda Lindo, Priscilla Madill, Andi Moran, Jaime Paton, Amanda Shorter, Stephanie Shorter and Rattan West.
