These campaign signs were located on Trafalgar Road, just south of Iroquois Shore Road. Candidates off and running Four candidates quickly launch campaigns in Oakville riding By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF See Incumbent page 5 After months of speculation, the federal election is officially underway, with four candidates already campaigning in the Oakville riding. This time, Oakville Liberal MP Bonnie Brown is being challenged by Conservative candidate Terence Young, NDP candidate Michelle Bilek and Green Party candidate Marion Schaffer. Despite Parliament only being dissolved on Sunday, the campaigns are already well underway for the Oct. 14 election with signs promoting Brown and rival Young already visible at street corners throughout the town. I guess the prime minister doesn't mind wasting $3.5 million that was already spent on those by-elections that were supposed to happen today." The issues Brown will raise during the campaign are many and range from the need for more care for the poor and elderly to immigration reform to a need for a move away from the aggressive combat role, she said, Canada is playing in Afghanistan. Brown also wants to draw the attention of Oakville residents to what she calls the mismanagement of the nation's finances, which she said has taken place under the Conservative government.
