Held at Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Rd., on Saturday, Sept. 13, the event will offer those who attend a combination of fun and insight as Halton Police partner with the Town of Oakville, McDonald's Restaurants and numerous other community groups to express the importance of making local roads safe for everyone. The event, which lasts from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will give those present an opportunity to speak with police officers and members of other organizations dedicated to ensuring safety on the streets. Among the special events taking place will be a car seat clinic, presentations on school bus and school crossing guard safety, a presentation on traffic signal operations, a CAA rollover simulator, skid school demonstrations and more. In a presentation courtesy of Mother's Against Drunk Driving (MADD) event goers will have the opportunity to put on fatal vision goggles, which simulate what it is like to be drunk. A Distractions Undermining Motorist Behaviour (DUMB) simulator will also be present at the event, which tests how distracted a motorist is by such things as cell phones, CDs, IPODs, eating and drinking and even personal grooming.
