www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday September 13, 2008 - 23 Run for Hope on Thanksgiving The third annual 5KSM Run For Hope is set to be held on Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 13. Along with its new date, it promises new events and live entertainment. On Thanksgiving Monday, Heritage Square (Kerr Street and Florence Drive) and the surrounding streets of the Kerr Village community will once again be bustling with activity. An expected 400-500 runners and walkers will be participating in the 5KSM Run For Hope. Thanks to sponsors, including title sponsor MacDougall, MacDougall & MacTier Inc., all registration fees and pledges will go to Kerr Street Ministries' youth programs. "With two years under our belts, we decided to step it up a notch," said race director Caroline Glasbey. "Moving the date to Thanksgiving Monday gave us more freedom to expand. We've added a separate 5K power walk immediately following the 5K run and preceding the `Officer Ellie's 1K' fun run/walk. The atmosphere promises to be very lively, with the help of the enthusiastic Celtic band, `Fiddlestix', performing on stage. There will be a kid's zone too, with face painting and pumpkin painting. All in all, a fun family Thanksgiving Monday morning." To attract the participation of corporations, sports groups and schools, this year also features a Corporate/Team/School Challenge with prizes for the fastest team, the team that raises the most pledges, and the team with the most creative apparel. Check the race website at www.5ksmrunforhope.com for details. Register online or by mail. Brochures can be found at The Running Company, The Running Room or the YMCA, as well as various fitness places and stores around Oakville. The Ontario Track and Field Association (OTFA)-certified 5K run will start at 9:30 a.m. for both serious and recreational runners. The 5K power walk will start at 9:35 a.m. and the 1K will start at 10:45 a.m. For more information, contact Caroline Glasbey at 905- 338-5294 or e-mail ksmrunforhope@sympatico.ca for more information.
