In a news release issued on Monday, the Ministry of Education announced that it has assigned former Ontario education minister Dave Cooke to be the facilitator for this case. Cooke will consult with local accommodation review committees, the school board and people who participated in the process in an effort to determine whether the school board followed its locally developed policies during the latest program and accommodation review. This review has been the source of much contention as it resulted in a July 2 decision to close four area schools and build a new school in the Clearview area. "I am very pleased that the Ministry of Education has acted quickly in appointing an independent facilitator to review the PARC (Program and Accommodation Review Committee) 14 process," said Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn. "The community needs to be assured that the PARC 14 process was fair and unbiased." Back in August the community group Oakville Residents for Public Education succeeded in gaining sufficient signatures, equal to at least 30 per cent of each effected school's headcount, to trigger the review. When his work is complete, Cooke will provide Education Minister Kathleen Wynne with a final report, which will then be released to the school board and the public. At the end of the day, the board will examine the findings of that report and determine what happens next.
