www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday September 19, 2008 - 23 Comments tell the story T here is a box at the entrance to the Peter Gilgan Family Y called the Comment Corner. Nicole Oko, YMCA of Oakville membership services co-ordinator, was so proud of some of the recent comments that she circulated them to the YMCA staff. We wanted to share them even further -- here's what our Peter Gilgan Family Y participants and parents are saying and what our staff are doing; · "I have been a member of the Y on and off for eight years. When we moved to Oakville from B.C. in April, we were pleased to see a local Y. As we have only planned to be in Oakville for a few months we joined the Y for all its programs available. You have been great during this time. A special thanks to everyone in aquatics and the rock climbing room. For the last three months you have been a community for us. Keep up the great work, thanks Oakville YMCA." · "I wanted to let management know that Marcella is a wonderful yoga instructor. Her class is a terrific, seamless balance of challenging poses and instilling a peaceful inner spirit. Her unobtrusive demeanor while maintaining a commanding presence is striking. You should use her more often." · "I really enjoyed Lucy. Her Body Blast class was unique and interesting. She has a great personality. I love her cycle fit class, too." · About Housekeeping Staff Members: "Mark is doing an excellent job. He is also so friendly and recognizes people by their name." "A thank you to all the staff that keep the ladies change room so spotless. Especially Doris who is always cheerful." · "Miss Gerri in Childminding is magic. My girls love her and she has made our first six months in Oakville easier." · "I would like to thank all the camp counsellors and bus marshals up at Bronte. They made my child feel like a star. A shy child finished the week at camp wanting to go back to see his new friends again. I ended up signing up my child for another two weeks of camp." · "I would like to compliment the aquatic staff for their patience and expertise in helping my son get over his fear of water. I'm especially pleased with Andrew, and others, but I'm not certain of their names." Thank you to the people who make the Peter Gilgan Family Y and the people who work and volunteer there part of their lives. For more information, call the Y at 905-845-3417 or come in and see us at 410 Rebecca Street. Seeking food drive volunteers Oakville's Fareshare Food Bank needs volunteers to hand out paper bags to collect food donations during the upcoming Thanksgiving food drive. The food drive begins Friday, Oct. 4. Volunteers are needed to stand at the entrance to the Great Canadian Superstore at Trafalgar Road and Dundas Street to hand out bags for shoppers entering the store to fill with food donations. Though students can pick their hours and days, most shifts will focus on peak shopping times on weekends. Hours volunteered will be counted toward the mandatory 40-hour community service required for high school students. While the volunteer work is ideal for students, everyone is welcome to apply.
