Lunch at the Legislature in Time, Talent and Treasure auction Have tea with former mayor Ann Mulvale or have lunch and take a tour of the Ontario Legislature with Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn. Both will be on the auction block of the Time, Talent and Treasure auction as St. John's United Church strives to make a difference in Africa. Members of St. John's United Church's Power of One Team are following the Gandhi philosophy, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." So in addition to its many projects that include Canadian Foodgrains Project, Habitat for Humanity, Kerr Street Ministries, the new playground at Oakwood School and a Speaker Series on various social justice topics , the auction will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18. On hearing about the $Million or More Oakville ($MOMO) campaign, whose honourary chair is long-time church member Sally Armstrong, the church decided to get on board in doing something to raise funds to assist the millions of African children who are orphans being raised by grandmothers because of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Currently 22.5 million people live with HIV in Africa of which 61 per cent are woman and there are nearly 12 million orphans. The Stephen Lewis Foundation, which is benefitting from the $MOMO campaign to raise $1 million in Oakville over two years, funds 140 grassroots initiatives in 15 countries across sub-Saharan Africa. The Time, Talent and Treasure Auction will be held in St. John's Hall on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. The hall will take on an African décor for the event and wine and refreshments will be served. There will be a silent auction of celebrity-autographed, themed pillows and a Live Auction of a variety of Time, Talent and Treasure.
