Hawks players win national medals Four Oakville Hawks rep lacrosse players won medals with their provincial teams at recent national championship tournaments. Tom Sacerty (midget) and Jackson Dewar (bantam) were part of gold-winning teams, while peewee players Andrew Kew and Foster Cuomo earned silver medals. Sacerty and the Ontario midgets avenged a preliminary-round loss to British Columbia by dumping B.C. 5-4 in the final, netting the winner with 4:14 to go in regulation. The team lost only one game at the nationals and earned a bye to the championship game. Dewar's bantam club had a tougher path to gold, defeating teams in the semis and final that it had already lost to in roundrobin play. Ontario routed B.C. 10-4 in the semifinal, then scored two late goals to edge Iroquois 8-6 in the gold-medal match. B.C. was the only team that stood between the provincial peewees and a gold medal. Ontario lost to B.C. in both the round robin and the championship game, Ontario's only two losses in the tournament. The final was a back-and-forth affair as B.C. rallied from a 52 second-period deficit to edge Ontaro 8-7.
