8- The Oakville Beaver, Friday October 10, 2008 www.oakvillebeaver.com LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Harper is a serial promise breaker Your decision against endorsing the Liberals in Oakville included your dissatisfaction with policy choices made by the very popular Jean Chrétien and Pierre Trudeau dating back nearly 40 years. At the same time, you've glossed over the dozens of broken promises Stephen Harper amassed in just two-and-a-half years as if they were irrelevant. By what logic do you fault Stéphane Dion for decisions made by other men in the distant past, while accepting on faith the word of Mr. Harper a proven, serial promise breaker? OWEN ROBINSON Disappearing election signs disappointing Annual Town Hall Open House Monday, October 20, 2008 5 - 7 p.m. Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Road South Atrium I am involved in the campaign to elect Blake Poland of the Green Party. As I was driving around town today on errands, I couldn't understand what had happened to so many of the small signs we had put up (nearly 1,000). It looks as though at least half of them have simply disappeared over the last week or two. Our budget did not allow for a lot of large signs, unlike the other parties. I've watched Blake Poland, the Green Party candidate, participating in the debates around town, always eager to get his message out, always in a respectful way. We pride ourselves in Canada for our democracy and civil rights and in Oakville, for our civility and small-town feel. The removal or vandalizing of election signs is a serious offence and subverts the civil rights of all voters in Oakville. Like a previous letter writer on Wednesday, I find this terribly disappointing. LIN MACKRAEL Looking forward to meeting you. Ray Green, CAO The Oakville Beaver welcomes letters from its readers.
