The fundraiser for Community Living Oakville, the Children's Aid Foundation of Halton, Kerr Street Ministries and the Goddard Group Charitable Foundation will be at Jonathans of Oakville. Denim and diamonds is the dress code for the event that will begin with hors d'oeuvres and cocktails at 6 p.m. on the main level. The show will be upstairs at 8 p.m. It will feature Kate "Funny Mom" Davis as the headliner. Davis is a speaker, writer, comedian, actress and mother of three. She is a five-time nominee at the Canadian Comedy Awards and star of her own hour-long comedy special on CTV and the Comedy Network. The event will also feature Canadian comic Mark Forward who has headlined in comedy clubs across Canada. Tickets cost $175 per person. Getting out of your comfort zone On Oct. 16, Grace Cirocco, international speaker and bestselling author will give a workshop in Oakville -- Outrageous Confidence ­ Getting out of Your Comfort Zone. The event is at Otello's Banquet and Conference Centre, 2273 Royal Windsor Dr. It is the first in a series of workshops ­ Minding Your Business ­ being hosted by Company of Women, which supports, connects and promotes women in business. BURLINGTON'S LARGEST, NEWEST & SCARIEST HALLOWEEN SUPERSTORE Fareshare food drive on until Sunday The annual Thanksgiving food drive at Oakville's Fareshare food bank continues to Oct. 19. The food bank's biggest users are families -- representing about 1,100 people, of whom half are kids. The number of users is going up -- in the first half of 2008, Fareshare has averaged 333 family visits per month. Food donations can be dropped off at the food bank, located at 1240 Speers Rd., Unit 6, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday to Saturday. Donations are also accepted at all Oakville fire stations and local supermarkets where Fareshare has collection bins. While donations of all nonperishable foods are welcome, the items most needed include: canned fruit and vegetables, crackers, cookies and deserts, instant coffee, tea (not herbal), canned stew, canned meat, liquid and powdered baby formula, baby cereal and kids' snacks like puddings and fruit cups.
