She loves the one-onone mentoring process of young writers. She credits her experience as an editor in helping to prepare her for leadership, for motivating people and, sometimes, even instigating change. She laughed, "Come to think of it, I was kind of a bossy kid on the playground." For his part, Ken said, "I was really inspired to volunteer by Liz, in terms of what she has accomplished in the environmental sector. We feel fortunate, I think, to have the particular skills to help community groups become more effective."
