Take the tour and hear tales about local trees that you won't forget. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., O a k v i l l e g r e e n Conservation Association and its affiliated group Ground Breakers Oakville, will hold their first Urban Forest Tree Tour. All ages are welcome to attend. The tour will start with a 15-minute presentation that introduces participants to the challenges of maintaining healthy trees in an urban environment. Then the group will travel by bus around the community to visit several remarkable trees, hear stories about local heroes of our urban forest and see a few interesting projects to improve tree health. A packed lunch will be provided to everyone on the tour. Cost of the tour for adults who are not members of Oakvillegreen is $10. There is no cost for students age 17 and younger. Ground Breakers has received support from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources for its community plantings in Oakville and the Ontario Trillium Foundation has provided funding that makes all of Oakvillegreen's Full Circle Tree Initiatives, including Ground Breakers, possible. Tree planting tomorrow Ground Breakers, a volunteer tree planting organization, in partnership with Evergreen, will plant trees in Iroquois Ridge Saturday. The planting will take place from 10 a.m.-noon. Participants should meet and park at Pondview Place (Eighth Line and Dundas). All ages welcome. Shovels, gloves and other supplies will be provided.
