It will take place from 5-7 p.m. at Town Hall, located at 1225 Trafalgar Rd. Residents are invited to stop in and talk to the CAO, the executive management team and other staff members about their local government. "Ensuring Oakville has an accessible and accountable government is a key council strategic priority," Mayor Rob Burton said. "We encourage residents to stop by and learn about the Town's role and its responsibilities to the community." Information on the Town's key strategies will be on display. Residents can learn about the process in creating the Town's new Official Plan that's been dubbed Livable Oakville as well as other planning initiatives; talk to staff about the Town's goals in environmental stewardship; find out about current and upcoming road construction projects and planned facilities such as North Park; and discover the many recreational programs and services. Residents are invited to attend the Town Council meeting following the open house and experience local government in action. "Local government affects everyone in our community," said Town CAO Ray Green. "Our annual Town Hall Open House will showcase not just the services provided by the Town, but also the people responsible for them." Local Government Week (Oct. 19-25) is an initiative of the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario to celebrate the role that municipal governments play in helping to define the charter, priorities, and amenities of communities. SPACE AGE SHELVING The Storage Specialists Region marks Waste Reduction Week with event Halton Region will celebrate Waste Reduction Week Thursday, Oct. 23. Regional Chair, Gary Carr will tout the success of Halton Region's GreenCart and Blue Box programs. The event will take place 11 a.m.noon, in council chambers at the Halton Regional Centre located at 1151 Bronte Rd. Winning entries for the "Name the Frogs" contest will be announced and the event will feature a choir from Munn's Public School and display video clips highlighting GreenCart use in Halton. Also on display will be submissions for the 2009 Waste Management Guide and Collection Calendar cover art contest.
