www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday October 29, 2008 - 9 Town expands Rzone procedure across Oakville Respect and responsibility. That's the message Oakville is communicating to its residents, visitors and Town employees as part of its newly expanded Townwide Rzone operating procedure. "The Town is dedicated to creating an environment for all our residents, employees and visitors where there is a sense of belonging, and that encourages participation," Mayor Rob Burton said. "Treating everyone with respect is an inherent part of the way we do business, and the Rzone is a great symbol of that commitment." The Rzone, which stands for respect and responsibility, is an operating procedure that promotes a positive, safe, and supportive environment for all members of the public and staff, where violence, vandalism and inappropriate behaviour are not acceptable. The Rzone applies to all Town of Oakville facilities, properties, town-sponsored events, programs, in written or verbal communications, in Town vehicles, or at any other location where Town staff are present. Community organizations, members of the public and Town staff can be `in the zone' and help promote respect and responsibility by using appropriate language in written and verbal communications, avoiding behaviour that intimidates or discourages others from participating in a n event, as well as respecting Town property and equipment. Anyone involved in or witnessing an unacceptable behaviour can fill out an Rzone report in-person with Town staff, or with the participating community organization (if applicable), online at www.oakville.ca, or by calling 1-866-67R-ZONE and leave a message. For more information on the procedure visit www.oakville.ca. The Rzone was first introduced in 2005 in Oakville's Recreation and Culture and Parks and Open Space departments. The success of the program has prompted the Town to expand the procedure across Oakville.
