(905) 827-1619 Program that will prepare new drivers for the responsibility behind the wheel. YD has added the DriveFitTM Program which trains your brain to more effectively react to everyday situations. The DriveFit Program assesses the users cognitive skills and creates a personalized training program to improve skills such as reaction time, divided attention, focus and short term memory. Scott Marshall is the Director of Training for Young Drivers of Canada and has over 20 years of experience in driver training. He emphasizes the fact that all YD instructors receive ongoing training and must recertify annually for their instructor and classroom teacher positions. Marshall says that YD is "a quality program which goes beyond meeting provincial standards and is dedicated to maintaining its high standards and professionalism." Christianson says the YD Program is revisited every year as well to ensure that it stays abreast of changes in technology and driving habits. Alyson Cooks is one of the instructors at the Oakville Young Drivers Centre and has seen first hand the confidence build in new drivers as they work through the program. "We encourage students to practice the good habits they are taught at YD so these "drive to survive" techniques really become a part of their every day driving experience. The skills they are taught will help keep them safe for the rest of their lives," says Cooks. NEW YOUNG DRIVERS LOCATION IN OAKVILLE You only learn to drive once, say the professionals at Young Drivers of Canada. You might as well do it right the first time. And that, says President Peter Christianson, means learning to drive with Young Drivers of Canada Canada's leading driving school that has been teaching safe driving since 1970. Young Drivers of Canada has been proudly serving the Oakville community since it first opened its doors in 1979. Now embarking on its 30th anniversary year, our 140 classrooms across Canada have now taught over one million students." Considering that the leading cause of death for those between the ages of 16 and 24 is traffic collisions, Christianson says it's vital for novice drivers to learn the YD techniques that could save their lives, as well as those of their passengers and others on the road. "Teens may not realize what it really means to drive defensively," he says. "Statistics show that unsafe driving can be fatal. The focus at YD remains, as it always has, on defensive driving." The course consists of 25 hours of theory, as well as 10 hours of private in-car training with only one student in the vehicle with the instructor. What students learn in the classroom, they have the opportunity to use during their in-car lessons as the techniques are well integrated. And that, says Christianson, includes practicing emergency maneuvers, in-car. Actually doing the maneuvers, he says, allows students to fully comprehend the dangers and how to avoid them at all times instead of simply hearing about them in the classroom or on the news. Avoiding rear crashes and head-on collisions are among the subjects covered in the proprietary Young Drivers Collisionfree! Approach to DrivingTM n ! "It's like learning to swim or play a musical instrument, you need to practice between lessons to get good at the new skill." That's why Young Drivers provides a free online Co-Driver program available for parents with children enrolled with YD. It shows what to practice and how to stay safe while practicing with their new drivers. Young Drivers also offers driver improvement programs for experienced licensed drivers, driver retesting preparation and training programs designed specifically for corporate fleet drivers across Canada. More information on Young Drivers of Canada is available online at www.yd.com or by calling the YD Oakville Centre at 905-842-6846. Young Drivers has moved to a brand new location with an upgraded classroom at 125 Lakeshore Road East, Suite 305. Starting out as a Centre Director, Peter Christianson has a special relationship with Oakville. "I saw the need for high quality driver education in the Oakville community and helped open the first classroom back in 1979. We have not looked back since and continue our commitment to teaching the skills needed to keep drivers safe on the road.
