This year's lineup will definitely provide entertainment for all ages and everyone will get into the Christmas spirit as they sing along to their favourite Christmas carols. Returning this year are the everpopular Hamilton Police Pipe Band, the Optimists Alumni Drum Corps, Merriam Music Percussion Ensemble, HMCS Star and the 540 Air Cadets. The Halton Regional Police Service Pipes and Drums' members, dressed in traditional Chisholm tartan, will once again lead off the Santa Claus Parade. The world famous Top Hat Marching Orchestra from Burlington will also be returning this year to delight young and young at heart. This group has been entertaining audiences with its musical talent since 1982 and is always a parade favourite. Heralding the arrival of Santa, the award-winning Top Hats are sure to bring a smile to your face as they bring their unique style to the Oakville parade. M. Robinson Drumline will make its first appearance in Oakville. The Rochester Hit Men Brass Band was a big hit last year when it made its Oakville debut. The Hit Men was founded in 2002 by World Drum Corps and Buglers Hall of Fame member David Martin and the band is made up of nine talented and entertaining professional musicians from Western New York. There will be two other U.S. bands making their Oakville debut this year. Prime Time Brass, another Rochester-based band, was formed in 2005 by 12 of the top brass players from western New York and Canada. This high-energy and technically-proficient group will dazzle parade watchers with its technique and amaze with its enormously large sound, mixed with a little shtick and a lot of personality. Earlier this year, Charles Thomas, director and performing arts department head at the Detroit Academy of Arts and Science contacted the Oakville parade to see how the school's marching band could participate in this year's parade. Recognized by Fox 2 News as the premier marching band in Detroit, the Mighty Marching Jaquars will make its Canadian debut at the 2008 Oakville Santa Claus parade. Now in its 60th year, the Oakville Santa Claus parade is a cherished tradition in our town. The 2008 Parade takes place Saturday, Nov. 15, beginning at 9 a.m. The parade will begin at Lakeshore Road and Reynolds Street, travel west on Lakeshore to Kerr Street, then head north on Kerr and will conclude at Kerr and Stewart streets.
