www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday November 7, 2008 - 5 Cop faces two gun charges A veteran Halton officer faces two charges after a police firearm was discharged recently, firing a bullet into a neighbours Burlington home. The Burlington Criminal Investigation Bureau and Professional Standards Bureau of Halton police investigated the incident, which occurred on Oct. 23. "I am confident a thorough and complete investigation has been conducted into this serious matter and our investigators have laid appropriate charges based on the evidence," said Halton Police Chief Gary Crowell. Police say an officer's firearm unintentionally discharged, sending a bullet out of one Burlington home and through the kitchen window of an adjacent home where it became lodged in a wall. No one was injured. The officer will also be subject to disciplinary action under the Police Services Act. Police say he will continue regular duties pending his trial, but will be prohibited from using his firearm until undergoing additional safety training. Police say no further details will be provided at this time because the case is before the courts. John Foster, 43, of Burlington is charged with careless use of a firearm and improper transportation and storage of a firearm. He is slated to appear in Milton provincial court on Friday, Nov. 28.
