"On Nov. 18, I will bring evidence of at least 30 better units available sooner, at less money, that the Region already knows about," Burton said. "They have reacted to with disinterest to it, which is something I find just unbelievable." Perkins noted she spends a lot of time hunting for housing and did not know of that kind of housing stock available. "Well, I do," said Burton. Salvation Army Council member Allan Horton pushed Burton on this issue later in the meeting, calling on the mayor to divulge these 30 locations so families in crisis could be helped immediately. Burton again pointed out that the Region already knows about these places. This did not deter Horton, who continued to press Burton for details. In the end, Burton said Horton could bring forward one family, who could be accommodated. When Horton continued to persist, Burton said he was `holding his powder' with regards to the other housing locations. "I hesitate to say this, but that is a callous attitude," said Horton. "We're talking about the need of people who are homeless." Another public information meeting will be held on the issue of transitional housing within the Ortona Barracks on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 7 p. m. The meeting will take place at the Halton Regional Centre located at 1151 Bronte Rd. in Regional Council Chambers.
