The Dolphins won 21 gold medals, 14 silver and 18 bronze at the season-opening Hall of Fame competition in Etobicoke, setting six club records in the process. The Dolphins then brought home 26 gold, 14 silver and eight bronze from the Milton Dash for Cash, setting two more club standards. In Etobicoke, 13-year-old Lauren Dixon was the Dolphins' top swimmer, winning five gold medals in her age group. Dixon was victorious in the 100-metre and 200m breaststrokes, the 100m and 200m freestyles and the 200m individual medley. William Dixon, 11, added gold in the 50m freestyle and silver in the 100m and 200m freestyle. Olivia Sbaraglia, also 11, claimed gold in the 50m freestyle and took silver in the 100m and 200m freestyles as well as the 100m backstroke. At the Dash for Cash, 10-yearold Meryn McCann won gold in all five events she competed in (100m and 200m freestyles, 100m backstroke, 50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly). Sbaraglia added four golds (400m individual medley, 100m backstroke, 50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly), with 11-year-old Conchobhair Russell and 14-yearold Amy Schubert winning three races each. Double-gold medalists were Olivia Andersen, Kurt Schubert, Jonathan Koren and George Papangelakis. Georgia Nelson, Katie Tsounis and William Dixon also won races. Other Dolphins medal-winners in Milton included Andres Alvarez, Elise Nelson, Panos Papangelakis, Marcus Ruiz, David Tiganila, Michael Tiganila and Sarah Tsounis. Speed skaters looking sharp Oakville Speed Skating Club athletes comprised more than a quarter of the field at the recent London Western Regional #1 Meet in Strathroy, coming away with 17 topfive finishes and two perfect scores. Mitchell Kothleitner and Evan MacHattie posted perfect scores on their way to victories, while Kathleen Gildea, Conor McNamee, Quinn MacHattie and Blake Sullivan also won gold medals. Cassandra Boychuk and Tiago Santos earned silver medals, while Sean McAnuff and Sean Stewart claimed bronze. Just missing the podium were Connor Millar, Erin Stewart, Rachel Van Gemert, Mathieu Masaro and Gabriel Patron (each finishing fourth), while Zubin Khan and Sydney MacDonald had fifth-place efforts. Brett Sullivan, Joshua Sullivan and Evan MacHattie each broke the 60second barrier for the first time in the 500-metre distance. Ryan McAnuff cracked the 50-second plateau in the 500m distance earlier in the year. At another recent meet, this one held in Rochester, Patrick Duffy won a silver medal and Erin Heidecker notched a bronze. Trinity juniors first local squad through to Halton football final Five local football teams remain in the hunt for Halton high school football championships. The Holy Trinity Titans juniors became the first Oakville squad to qualify for a Halton final this season, defeating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 21-14 in the Division 1 semifinal round. Trinity will meet the Nelson Lords, who downed the Assumption Crusaders 21-6 in the other semifinal, Wednesday at Ivor Wynne Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. In junior Division 2, the Iroquois Ridge Wolfpack will visit the Corpus Christi Longhorns in semifinal action Wednesday (a 2:30 p.m. start). The winner of that contest will advance to face either the Georgetown Rebels or Milton District Mustangs in the Halton final, scheduled for Nov. 19 at Ivor Wynne. Ridge advanced to the semis with a 36-6 rout of the Lester B. Pearson Patriots in the quarter-finals. Senior An all-Oakville matchup in the senior Division 2 final is a distinct possibility, with both the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders and Trinity hosting semifinal games next week. Aquinas will face the Robert Bateman Wild Thursday, a day after the Titans clash with Georgetown. Both those semifinal games are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. kickoffs. In senior Division 3, the White Oaks Wildcats will hope to earn a berth in the final when they host Pearson Wednesday (2:30 p.m.). The winner will take on either Milton or the Burlington Central Trojans in the final. Both the senior Division 2 and Division 3 finals are slated for Nov. 19 at Ivor Wynne. Oakville peewees cruise at Can/Am Scoring 32 goals and allowing only one, the Oakville peewee AA Rangers cruised to the championship at the recent Can/Am Challenge Cup in Lake Placid. Oakville beat Montclair (N.J.) 7-0, Marlboro (Mass.) 5-1, Middlesex (Mass.) 4-0 and Willowdale (Toronto) 12-0 in round-robin play, then beat Marlboro 4-0 in the final.
