Police said on Thursday a suspect entered the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), 600 Speers Rd., with his face concealed and demanded money. No weapon was seen or indicated, but the teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash to the suspect, who then attempted to flee the scene using a vehicle being driven by a second suspect. However, the two suspects were stopped in the bank's parking lot by awaiting Halton and Peel police officers. The arrests followed an extensive police investigation into seven bank robberies that occurred between Aug. 15 and Nov.13, at banks in Oakville, Mississauga and Etobicoke. The suspects have been charged with hitting the same Oakville CIBC twice with the first robbery occurring on Wednesday, Oct. 1. Matthew Gotman, 27, has been charged with seven counts of robbery and four counts of disguise with intent. Florinda Rizzi, 25, has been charged with four counts of robbery. Numerous speakers cited concerns over warnings on toothpaste tubes directing people to call poison control if toothpaste -- which contains fluoride -- is swallowed. They also cited concerns over fluorosis, which causes white spots on teeth when a person has too much fluoride in their body. A few speakers said the white spots are just an outward symptom of something more serious going on inside the body. Also of deep concern to many of the speakers are warnings that babies not drink fluoridated water. One Milton woman, Cheryl Boch, spoke to councillors with her infant daughter in her arms. "I make every effort not to give fluoridated water to my daughter," she said. On hand to defend the practice was Dr. Peter Cooney, Health Canada's chief dental officer, who said studies show drinking fluoridated water helps to reduce tooth decay by 20 to 40 per cent in kids and teens and by 27 per cent in adults.
