10 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday November 21, 2008 www.oakvillebeaver.com Do you know a war vet who should be on the Honour Roll? A comprehensive Honour Roll list of veteran names that will be permanently created on a new monument at George's Square is now available for review at www.oakville.ca. The addition of a separate memorial will complement the existing cenotaph on Trafalgar Road at Palmer Avenue and will commemorate Oakville residents who served in one of the Great Wars (WWI, WWII) or the Korean War. "The existing monument located at George's Square currently lists the names of veterans who died during their service to this country," said Chris Mark, Director of Parks and Open Space for the Town of Oakville. "This new memorial will stand as a symbol of respect to honour all of those who answered the call of duty." The Honour Roll will be available for public review until Dec. 19 to confirm existing details and gather additional information before the Town permanently attaches the names to the new memorial. Hard copy Honour Roll lists including correction and addition forms are available at Town Hall located at 1225 Trafalgar Rd., all community centres, libraries, the Sir John Colborne Seniors Centre, Oakville Seniors Centre on Kerr Street, the Oakville and Bronte Legions and Halton Regional Centre. It will also be available at the town halls, legions, community and seniors centres in Milton and Burlington. The Honour Roll reflects the names of men and women who served in one of the Great Wars or the Korean War, and lived in Oakville at the time of enlistment. From 1857 until 1962, prior to amalgamation, Oakville was bounded by Maurice Drive, Cross Avenue, Gloucester Avenue and Lake Ontario. Trafalgar Township included communities such as Bronte, Palermo, Hornby and portions of what is now Milton. The Town will also be updating the previously established Honour Roll list for the Trafalgar Township Memorial as required. Residents can review both the George's Square and Trafalgar Memorial lists at www.oakville.ca/georgessquarememorial.htm or in person at the locations listed above. An official dedication of the memorial is expected to take place next November in time for Remembrance Day 2009. SPEND THE WINTER? We opened just in time for you to settle in before Winter arrives!
