The event will wrap up the campaign that began in September with a $3.41 million fundraising goal. While to some it may seem presumptuous to plan a celebration before the final tally is counted, UWO knows that the greatest measure of success in connecting people and resources to build a healthy community. With that in mind staff, volunteers and supporters work throughout the campaign period to make a connection between the need for funds in the community and the thousands of potential donors in the Town of Oakville. United Way is out in the community and in workplaces. Progress thermometers are erected in Town, ads are placed in the papers and, in many cases, staff and volunteers are actually out in the community asking people for support. This year, as in the past, their efforts have been answered with resounding support. Hundreds of businesses and individuals throughout Oakville have already pledged their support, whether through a payroll deduction at work, a corporate gift, a one-time donation or a gift of securities. Ann Mulvale, this year's campaign cabinet chair, urged supporters to "Hit it out of the park," during the campaign kickoff event that was held in September. With the campaign progress currently at 94 per cent and only a few days left to give, United Way of Oakville is appealing to anyone who has not yet pledged their support to do so before the end of the week as the deadline nears.
