Ours is just one of 37 similar community partnerships in Ontario funded by the Ministry of Health Promotion. The program is hosted by the Halton Region Health Department who provides a full time coordinator to support the work of the community partnership. In Halton, Choices 4 Health aims to: · Educate the Halton community on the importance and benefits of achieving a healthy lifestyle. · Support the Halton community so individuals can adopt a healthy lifestyle. · Increase the community's access to opportunities for healthy eating, physical activity, good mental health and tobacco-free living. · Focus on programs in workplaces, schools and the community at large to benefit as many individuals and families as possible. We are pleased to announce that six programs will be supported by Choices 4 Health in 2009. These will include a Farm to School program to promote eating more local fresh fruit and vegetables; a Healthy Schools program which will promote more active lifestyles and healthy eating; Halton Fresh Food Box, a program that increases access to fresh fruit and vegetables; WALK ON, a program that aims to promote more walking and active transportation in Halton; Physicians Promoting Physical Activity continuing education program; and the Be a Winner!
