The Bruins were edged 1-0 in the semifinals by North Carolina, which went on to win the title with a 21 win over Notre Dame Sunday. SPORTSBRIEFS UCLA has made six straight trips to the final four but last reached the final in Lang's freshman year in 2005, where they lost to Portland. The Bruins were 22-0-2 heading into the final and were the tournament's number one seed. Lang had a goal and an assist in UCLA's 6-1 quarterfinal win over Duke last week. She finished the season with five goals and nine assists in 23 games. Gill part of Canadian gymnastics team TRIUMPHANT IN TORONTO: Appleby College's under-14 hockey team poses with the championship trophy after winning the Upper Canada College Prep U14 Invitational tournament recently in Toronto. Appleby wins Upper Canada U14 hockey title Balanced scoring and strong defensive play enabled Appleby College's under-14 hockey team to win the Upper Canada College Prep U14 Invitational Hockey Tournament, held recently in Toronto. Appleby concluded an undefeated showing with a 3-1 win over Upper Canada College in the gold-medal game. Justin Moll, Matt Greenwood and Patrick Watt scored goals for Appleby, with Ryan Hubner providing several key saves late in the game to clinch the victory. Appleby posted wins over teams from Quebec and Ontario in preliminary-round play, scoring 23 goals and allowing only five. The team then blanked Montreal's Lower Canada College 2-0 in the semifinals, as Colleen O'Kelly recorded the shutout and Calvin Rypkema and Ryan Kipp provided offensive support. Other members of the team are Robbie Renwick, Hunter Swain, Liam Thomas, Kevin Kurzeja, Taylor Brophy, Ben Sisokin, Emma Guimaraes, Chelsea Smith, Tyler Ganly, Addison Keizer and Michael Andlauer. David Thompson and Fraser Grant coach the team. Sabrina Gill of the Oakville Gymnastics Club helped Canada 3 finish 10th at the Massilia Open women's gymnastics competition in Marseilles, France. Canada had four enteries in the 23-team field. Gymnastics Canada was using the event as a way to identify and evaluate potential candidates for the 2012 Olympic team. Canada 1 and 2 took the silver and bronze medals. Butterflies member named athlete of year Emily Boycott of the Oakville Butterflies Rhythmic Gymnastics team was named the Ontario Special Olympics female athlete of the year.
