On Dec. 31st, there will be some howl'n going on at Bronte Creek Park as the park naturalist will be leading an evening hike where visitors will learn to howl like coyotes and then gather round the bonfire for the Countdown for Kids. Join in the guided Public Coyote Howl hike that will uncover some secrets about the largely misunderstood coyote. Everyone is invited to gather around the bonfire at 8:30 p.m. to welcome in the New Year during the Countdown for Kids. There is no additional fee to participate in the alcohol-free New Year's Eve program. Hike times are 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The public skating rink at the park will offer extended hours on New Year's Eve, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. (weather permitting). The Park Store will be serving up hot food and drinks from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. and also offers skate rentals in an assortment of sizes for both children and adults. The park's Children's Farm and Playbarn are open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the winter. For more information on ice conditions, park events and facilities, call 905-827-6911. There is no additional fee for use of the skating rink or Playbarn after obtaining a daily vehicle permit. Daily vehicle permits are $13.85 per vehicle. Reduced rates are available for seniors and disabled permits.
