That's the judgment against Halton MPP Ted Chudleigh from Ontario's Integrity Commissioner who ruled Thursday the politician's website, www.tedchudleigh.com, "improperly blurs the lines" between information for constituents and for followers of the local Conservative party. "I find that Mr. Chudleigh has contravened parliamentary convention by creating a virtual constituency office, through his website, that has partisan content," wrote Acting commissioner Lynn Morrison in her 21-page report. "However, I am also of the opinion that, with an eye to achieving some economic efficiency by creating only one website, Mr. Chudleigh acted in good faith." Morrison recommended that Chudleigh receive no penalty. In an interview after the report Halton MPP Ted Chudleigh was released, Chudleigh explained that his website is paid for by the Halton Progressive Conservative Riding Association and not with government money. The representative ran into trouble by including links to information on government services for his constituents. If a member decides to offer constituency information on the Internet, the website must not display a party logo or any reference to a riding association, Morrison wrote. Chudleigh said he will create a second website that will have information for constituents, but not include any information about the local wing of the Conservative party. He said he has already removed a link on the website that gave the phone number to his constituency office for people interested in attending a golf tournament fundraiser for local Conservatives. Guelph Liberal MPP Liz Sandals filed the original complaint about Chudleigh's website earlier this year. "You can't use your constituency office to raise money for your political party," Sandals said yesterday in a written statement. "It's wrong and he got caught." Chudleigh agreed that constituency offices have to be nonpartisan. Scooter's Roller Palace Pud By Steve Nease snease@haltonsearch.com The real gift is the time you'll spend together.
