Sultan Prospects' annual Battle for Breast Cancer tournament is scheduled to begin tonight (Friday) and conclude Sunday, with games being played at Sheridan and four Mississauga locations. Sultan Prospects head coach and president Fergy Neves said his organization hopes to raise at least $5,000 for breast cancer research through this year's tournament. The bulk of that money would be raised tomorrow (Saturday) as a celebrity exhibition game between the CFL's Toronto Argonauts and Hamilton Tiger-Cats highlights the weekend. That contest will begin at 8 p.m. at Sheridan. Tickets cost $10 and qualify ticketholders for raffle prizes being drawn throughout the evening. A Tiger-Cats list of participants had yet to be confirmed as of yesterday (Thursday), but Argonauts players expected to attend include Andre Durie, Jerome Davis, Obed Cetoute, Jason Shivers, Keith Stokes and Chuck Winters. Argos co-owner David Cynamon is also expected to attend the game, and Neves hopes to convince Cynamon to play. Players will be available to sign autographs following the game. A member of the Toronto Raptors has also attended the celebrity game each of the past four years, with Joey Graham coming to the last two. As of yesterday, Neves was uncertain whether any Raptors players would be in attendance tomorrow. "They don't play, but they sit down there and look good," Neves said of the Raptors players. Admittance to tournament games is free. Twenty teams will compete in the tournament's AAA division, with 11 more comprising the AA grouping. Sultan Prospects is a traveling team designed to expose players to American and Canadian colleges and universities, providing scholarship opportunities. The world junior MVP was traded to the London Knights yesterday (Thursday) afternoon, the Toronto Star reported on its website. The paper said Tavares' agent, Pat Brisson, confirmed the trade from the Oshawa Generals, where Tavares has played since being taken first overall in the Ontario Hockey League draft in 2005 as a 14year-old. Tavares returned to Oshawa after helping Canada win its fifth straight world junior gold medal and played in the Generals' 8-2 loss to Belleville Wednesday, recording a goal and an assist. London (30-8-1) is among the top teams in the OHL and looking to gain ground on the frontrunning Windsor Spitfires. In London, Tavares will join fellow Oakvlle resident Trevor Cann. The Knights acquired the goaltender from the Peterborough Petes in November. In his three-and-a-half seasons in Oshawa, Tavares scored 183 goals to become the team's all-time leader. That total included a 72-goal season that broke Wayne Gretzky's league record for the most by a 16-yearold. He had 383 points in 223 games. This season, the 18-year-old has 26 goals and 54 points in 31 games to rank second in the OHL, despite missing a month while with the world junior team. Tavares and Swedish defenceman Viktor Hedman are considered to be the frontrunners to be taken first overall in this summer's NHL draft. -- Herb Garbutt Canucks upset at MLP Cup Sweden scored two unanswered goals to edge Canada 2-1 in the final of the women's hockey MLP Cup. Canada opened the scoring early in the second period but Sweden tied the game and then took the lead 36 seconds into the third. Despite outshooting Sweden 3524, including 15-6 in the third period, Canada could not get the equalizer. Oakville's Christina Kessler, who blanked Germany in the semifinal, did not play in the championship game. The loss was just the second in 23 games for the women's under-22 national team at the tournament. Canada had won the previous six tournaments. Farrer, Wilson-Kirby feted Oakville's Brendan Farrer and Justin Wilson-Kirby earned allCanadian honours from the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association. Farrer, a junior at McGill University was named on defence for the Eastern team. Wilson-Kirby, in his first year at the University of Guelph, was named to Western team at attack.
