It took more than five hours to get through 27 delegations on the Ward 4 Oakville elementary schools accommodation issue on Wednesday. By the end of the night, only one delegate fully supported the currently-tabled solution, with the remainder predominantly divided on two other alternatives. Halton District School Board (HDSB) Director of Education Wayne Joudrie proposed three possible options, labelled A, B and C, in a report presented in December. He recently put forward Option B as the preferred choice. This would see one single-track French immersion school (Ecole Forest Trail), two dual-track schools (Pilgrim Wood and proposed new school Palermo) and five single-track English schools. A second recommendation presented with that option is that the HDSB implement a boundary study if either of the dual-track schools in Ward 4 Oakville exceed a 60 per cent threshold for French immersion enrolment. The other two choices presented by Joudrie were Option A, which proposed two single-track French immersion schools (Palermo and Ecole Forest Trail) and six single-track English schools, or Option C, with three dual-track schools (Palermo, Pilgrim Wood and Ecole Forest Trail) and five single-track English schools. Joudrie's rationale for this recommendation was intended to be put forward last week, but trustees were unable to get through the agenda at that time. It was slated to be presented on Thursday night (after press time) at a special board meeting. The board is scheduled to vote on the issue on Wednesday, Jan. 21. There were almost equal numbers of English-track See Board page 3 Grand Opening Wednesday, June 25 Grand Re-Opening Wednesday, June 25 905-849-5483 905-338-1288 THURSDAY, JUNE 25TH @ 2 4 3 S P E E R S R OA D, OA K V I L L E
