Please secure all open loads with a tarp or rope. All customers are to report to the Scalehouse upon arrival. Household Hazardous Waste Depot Residential hazardous waste can damage the environment if disposed of improperly; it must not be put in the garbage or poured down the drain. Each year the Household Hazardous Waste Depot recycles or properly disposes over 750,000 litres of residential hazardous waste. Accepted free of charge: Acids (rust remover) Aerosol cans (full) Antifreeze Batteries (household and car) Bleach Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs) Fertilizers Fluorescent tubes (8 maximum) Fuels Garden chemicals Household cleaners Medications Motor oil and Paint Pesticides Pool chemicals Propane tanks Solvents Stains Varsol Fees For general waste and use of the Container Station, the user fees are: up to 50 kg 51 kg -150 kg NEW! over 150 kg $5/load $10/load 13.4 cents/kg starting from 0 kg There is a 20 litre maximum per visit. No commercial hazardous waste can be accepted. Empty paint cans (dry with lids removed) and other empty containers (with no liquid or powder residue) can be disposed of with regular garbage. Pick up usable paint and stain at the Reuse Shed for free. The Paint Reuse Shed is conveniently located beside the Household Hazardous Waste Depot and is open from spring to fall. The HWMS cannot guarantee which colours will be available. Blue Boxes & Backyard Composters Blue Boxes, GreenCarts and Backyard Composters are available at the Scalehouse. Blue Boxes: new residents two free of charge, current residents one free of charge, $5 per additional box (3 maximum) GreenCarts: new residents one free of charge, additional carts $15 each (2 maximum) Backyard Composters: $15 each (2 maximum) Halton Waste Management Site 5400 Regional Road 25, Milton Open: Monday Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Closed every Sunday and the following holidays: New Year's Day Family Day Good Friday Victoria Day Canada Day Civic Holiday Labour Day Thanksgiving Christmas Day Salvation Army Drop-off Drop-off unwanted reusable items for no fee and help the community. Acceptable Items: clothing, linens, paired shoes, kitchenware, certain toys, books, working computers, TVs and undamaged furniture. Not Accepted: cabinets, desks, typewriters, tires, auto parts, mattresses, infant equipment (cribs, etc.) and console TVs. Container Station In addition to garbage disposal, the following materials Appliances ($5 per appliance) Drywall Electronics (computer hard drives, stereos, VCRs, DVD players, etc.) Scrap metal Passenger and light truck tires ($5 per load, up to 5 tires per year per household) Wood Yard Waste Producing Green Energy Utilization Project is a partnership between Halton Region and Oakville produce electricity. The project provides enough "green" energy to power approximately 1,500 homes. both reduces odours and cuts down methane into the atmosphere, improving the environment.
