34 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday January 16, 2009 www.oakvillebeaver.com Get active on a tax credit re your children involved in recreation and leisure programs in Halton? You may be eligible for a credit. In early 2007, the Government of Canada began to allow a nonrefundable tax credit on eligible amounts of up to $500/year paid by parents to register a child (under age 16) in an eligible program of physical activity. This includes any active program ongoing for eight weeks or a day camp where your child attends five days in a row and is active for 50 per cent of each day. Active Halton (formally the Halton Active Living Network www.activehalton.ca), has received funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to assist them in getting the message out to residents of Halton Region about this non-refundable tax credit. Over the next few weeks Active Halton will distribute 9,000 information flyers to various network members and organizations across Halton. "Active living is an important part of everyday life.
