Gymnastics Canada (GCG) recognizes the value of gymnastics at all levels, and has recently initiated a long term athlete development model to direct and guide clubs all across Canada in the foundational and developmental years of gymnastics. Early exposure to gymnastics activity should be one of the first steps for all children on the road to physical literacy and movement during the first ten years of a child's life. If well developed early in life, these movement patterns will enhance sport participation and enjoyment, contribute to a healthy, active lifestyle, and provide physical and motor capabilities that can be drawn upon for a lifetime. Active Start Gymnastics is for boys and girls aged 0-6. The program is structured around creating movement challenges where participants. These gymnastic-based activities will enhance development of brain function, coordination, social skills, gross motor skills, emotions, leadership and creativity. They also support healthy physical growth and development; strong bones and muscles; good posture, balance and agility; improved flexibility, fitness and sleep; and the promoting of healthy weight. (Excerpts from Gymnastics Canada Long Term Athlete Development Model.) The OGC coaching staff are trained and accredited to promote and monitor every child's development in recreational gymnastics. Their goal is to support the long term benefits your child will attain through his or her active participation and enjoyment of the sport of gymnastics... where all sport begins. Change in Recreation Registration Process.... Register for more than one recreational term at a time! Starting in the fall of 2009, families can pre-register for the fall, winter and or spring terms all at the time. This allows families to plan ahead and avoid long line-ups and phone messages. The Oakville Gymnastics Club is once again busy with numerous gymnastics programs. Our Recreational program is our number one priority, with approximately 6,000-7,000 participants each year. This includes the regular session classes, Summer camp, March Break camp, school groups and our popular birthday parties. The club's competitive national, provincial and developmental programs in men's and women's artistic and tumbling have 180 athletes training from four to twenty-seven hours per week. These competitive athletes are high profile and occupy positions within the provincial and national programs. Our club extends our heartfelt thanks to Erin Mills Acura, 3025 Woodchester Dr. Mississauga, ON. (905) 828-5800 a proud sponsor of the Oakville Gymnastics Club. Oakville Gymnastics Club also extends sincere appreciation to EPSON for it's continued support of our club with ongoing donations and generous contributions to our special events. Proper nutrition is essential for growth and development and meat and alternatives are an important part of a balanced diet. Canada's Food Guide recommends one serving of meat and alternatives for girls and boys (4-8 years of age) and 1-2 servings of children (9-13 years of age). Help get their servings of meat and alternatives with these helpful hints: · Try a variety of meat alternatives like beans, lentils and tofu.
