Four delegates presented their objections to the process prior to the board's decision. These delegates represented various groups, such as "We feel there is a Oakville Residents complete disconnect for Public Education between the (ORPE), three of the community and four residents' assothe board." ciations in Ward 3 and six school coun- Mark Caskenette, cils. Oakville Residents for All four speakers Public Education asked for a deferral spokesperson of the process's approval so that members of the southeast Oakville community could provide feedback and suggest revisions. This request was not heeded by trustees, who unanimously approved the consultation process that is expected to start in mid-February, with a decision date set for June. "We feel there is a complete disconnect between the community and the board," ORPE spokesperson Mark Caskenette told The Oakville Beaver. "All four community groups delegated essentially asking for the same thing and respectfully requesting that the process coming forward should be a partnership with parents and the community. The question that rises is where is the public accountability of the board?" INTERFAITH SERVICE: Rabbi Stephen Wise of the Shaarei-Beth El Reformed Synagogue will be joining Rev. Canon Darcey Lazerte at St. Simon's Anglican Church to take part in a Judeo-Christian Service at St. Simon's on Sunday night. To find out more, see page 10.
