Married with two sons, Forrestal plans to put the windfall towards his children's education and RRSPs. Oakville, Terence Young, in the federal government. He called me personally just ahead of the budget announcement to tell me that we weren't going to get anything and assured me he would keep trying." Young said Monday the project was not rejected by the government and that funding is a possibility. "I certainly did (call Burton before the budget announcement) and I informed him, `Do not be dismayed in any way if any projects in Oakville are not named in a national economic plan, because very few projects will be named,'" Young told The Oakville Beaver. "They named some big ones that cross provincial boundaries, like we are going to expand the track and improve rail service between Toronto and Montreal, but I said, `Don't draw any conclusions if any projects in Oakville are not named, I'm still working on them and am optimistic about them.'" Young said Monday he could not reveal how much money could be allocated to the project or when a funding announcement might be made, although he said it could be "soon." "We have a new MP for Oakville, Terence Young, in the federal government. He called me personally just ahead of the budget announcement to tell me that we weren't going to get anything and assured me he would keep trying." "I certainly did (call Burton before the budget announcement) and I informed him, `Do not be dismayed in any way if any projects in Oakville are not named in a national economic plan because very few projects will be named.'" Mayor Rob Burton Oakville MP Terence Young The Oakville MP added that he knows there is a need for the QEP Community Centre in the area. "This one is really an exciting one for me, because not only is it a community centre and it will support seniors who are sort of lined up for activities in, for instance, the John Colborne Centre, but it could be a home for the arts in Oakville," Young said. The proposed multi-purpose community centre is expected to cost between $23.3 and $33.5 million, depending on the building design that is selected. The Government of Ontario gave the Town $7.4 million in summer 2008, which has been earmarked for the community centre. Both the mayor and Ward 1 Councillor Ralph Robinson have publicly stated their support for the least expensive building design, which carries the $23.3 million price tag. This option offers the largest floor plan, with the existing 144,000-sq.-ft. building renovated. Burton said he has been crunching numbers. He has found a way to finance the least expensive option of the project, but not the first two options, which cost $33.5 and $32.3 million, respectively. "I know how I could finance this (option 3)... I have a plan for that," he said. "The other two (options 1 and 2), I don't have a plan yet for how to get the rest of the money, so I can't give a date on that." Council is expected to vote on the project this spring.
