I n a world of everchanging people, environments and laws, the need for greater positive change continues to mount. The students of today will be the leaders of tomorrow, bringing about development and transformation of today's society. On Feb. 25, 2009 the Iroquois Ridge's Student Voice will be holding its first annual Raise Your Voice Conference. This conference aims to open the eyes of students to the various issues, triumphs and most of all the power of student unity as seen in history, politics and global affairs. Equipped with a wide countries and works to end the strife faced by people in those countries. Expanding on the Me to We philosophy, she will deliver a speech to the students on how she herself has brought positive change and how all students could strive to do the same. The sharing of the human spirit is the integral lesson to be learned by all students and small acts of charity and philanthropy can dramatically aid another person. Following Kent, various workshops will be conducted about organizations and events that supvariety of talented young port or have helped students underspeakers and experts, the conference will deliver many workshops featuring the facts, perspectives and movements by which student voices have initiated greater change. The day will begin with Louise Kent, a gifted musician and talented speaker of the Me to We organization, who has travelled to a multitude of stand their freedom and use their voices effectively. Louis Briggs from Amnesty International will speak on the injustice of imprisoning human rights activist Huseyin Celil. Adam Mitchell, a student graduate of the Ridge will talk about his work as co-founder of the Queen's Commerce Initiative Abroad. The debate team will feature a philosophical debate concerning the difference between a 16 year old and an 18 year old when it comes to laws and rights. Iroquois Ridge's Global Issues Council will speak about the 30- Hour Famine and how that student movement has inspired and brought positive change to people's lives. Great moments in Canadian history will be featured including brave battles, uplifting speeches and perspectives of moving forward through the ages with unity, strength and hope.
