"Georgetown always wins, so finishing second is kind of like finishing first," said OT coach Kathryn Stearns-Brown, whose swimmers combined to win 10 events. Petford, a double-gold medallist at last year's provincial championships, won the 15and-over girls' 100-metre backstroke and 100m individual medley. She was also part of two triumphant relay teams. Joining Petford atop the individual podium were teammates Jeff MacSween (15-andover boys' 50m butterfly), Karina Sils (girls' 100m butterfly), Veronica Davis-Freeman (girls' 100m breaststroke) and Clara Armstrong (14-and-under girls' 100m individual medley and 50m breaststroke). Other local swimmers to win individual events included Iroquois Ridge's Kent Kikot (boys' 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly), Mack Darragh (boys' 100m backstroke and 100m breaststroke) and Marni Oldershaw (girls' 200m individual medley), Abbey Park's Bryn Johnson (15-and-over boys' 50m freestyle), Ali Smith (14-and-under girls' 50m backstroke) and Mika Spencer (girls' 100m freestyle), White Oaks' Jillian Bekker (15-and-over girls' 100m freestyle) and Holy Trinity's Miguel Lozano (boys' 100m freestyle). Local relay winners were Oakville Trafalgar's 15-and-over girls' 200m medley team (Shauna Moore, Samantha Mehltretter, Adrienne Joaquim and Petford), girls' 200m medley team (Holly Olsen, Katie Fox, Sharalynn Missiuna and Sils), and girls' 15and-over 200m freestyle team (Gwen Scott, Joaquim, Petford and Moore), and Iroquois Ridge's boys' 200m medley team (Reid Scarrow, John Steadman, Kikot and Darragh) and boys' 400m freestyle team (Scarrow, Steadman, Kikot and Darragh).
