Each month up to 25 injured and/or sick animals depend on the Society's help. When animals require medical attention, providing care can challenge the budget of this charitable organization especially during these financially difficult times. Thanks to the support of donations to the Charlie Fund, injured or sick animals find hope at the Humane Society. "The Charlie Fund started as a result of a Border Collie with an injured leg that came to us in 1985," noted Heather White, Community Outreach and Education Manager at the Oakville and District Humane Society. "We fundraised to pay for the surgery." The Border Collie survived and the Charlie Fund was born. "The Charlie Fund is very important to the work we do at the Society," added White. "Surgeries PET OF THE WEEK: Oodles is nice boy. For more information about animal adoptions, visit www.oakvillehumane.ca. can be expensive. The fund gives us the option to help abandoned, medically challenged animals and orphaned animals. Without donations, we cannot continue the important work of giving these animals a second chance." Animals like Cruiser, a dog that was hit by a car and needed veterinary care, would not be able to be treated without the money that is provided by the Charlie Fund. Fortunately, Cruiser's injuries were not too severe and he is now safe and sound in a home. $ 99* INSTALLATION INCLUDED 6 Cassie, a beautiful black and white cat, came to the shelter as a stray with a litter of kittens. She had a very badly deformed leg that could not be fixed. It was decided that the best course of action was to amputate the leg. She has healed and gets around wonderfully. Cassie is now behind our front desk and is available for adoption. "The Charlie Fund really makes a difference, "said White. "Without it we would have very difficult choices to make with animals in serious medical need." If you would like to make a donation fund, call the Oakville and District Humane Society at 905-845-1551, donate through www.oakvillehumane.ca or visit the shelter at 445 Cornwall Rd. SQ. FT.
