Owens took over in the fourth quarter with his Irish squad trailing 30-19, outscoring the Titans by himself with 10 points as Notre Dame began its furious comeback. "We started hustling (in the fourth)," said Owens, a Grade 9 student who will probably be back on the junior squad next season. "Unfortunately we came up short. They did a very good job." Chris Dooley, the Irish coach, figured the raucous surroundings might have had some effect on his troops. "The environment was a bit too much for some of us," he said. "And, there's a lot of size on that team and a lot of skill, too." Titans captain Foster-Roman thought the fact the team's strategy of putting pressure on Irish's outside shooters, something Holy Trinity failed to do in the first meeting, was a key. "We did a better job on defence closing them out," he said of the Irish, who didn't sink any of the few long balls it attempted. And what about the frantic finish? "It was pretty bad," he said. "It might have been just nerves. I don't think we lost our confidence. We were just trying to hold on the ball." Kris Kowalchuk had nine points for the Irish and Matt Smiarowski added six. Senior Titans seek OFSAA berth After slaying one giant Tuesday, the Holy Trinity Titans hope to take down another tonight (Friday) and stamp their ticket for the provincial high school boys' basketball AAAA championships. Trinity will host Hamilton's St. Thomas More at 8 p.m. in a game that will determine the Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference (GHAC) representative for next month's Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) tournament. The Titans earned the right to face St. Thomas More by upsetting the Assumption Crusaders 58-55 in overtime Tuesday in Burlington. Assumption had gone undefeated in regularseason play before falling 88-80 to the Loyola Hawks in last week's Halton semifinals. Trinity led Assumption 51-46 with a minute to go in regulation but the Crusaders rallied to force overtime with a layup by Chadrack Lufile with 10 seconds left in the fourth quarter. All seven of the Titans' points in overtime came on free throws as Trinity went seven-ofeight from the line. Jordan Catterall led the Titans with 13 points, Jordan Clarke scored 12 and Troy Stevenson added 11. Assumption's Trevor Williams was the game's high scorer, netting 17 points before fouling out in overtime. He was also hampered by an ankle injury suffered late in regulation. St. Thomas More defeated Cathedral Tuesday to advance to the GHAC championship. $ 39 .99 · JERSEYS · JACKETS · HATS · T-SHIRTS · BALLS · SHOES · SCARVES · WRIST BANDS · FLAGS · SHOES · MUCH MORE www.oakvillebeaver.com
