OAKVILLE BEAVER · Wednesday, March 4, 2009 8 Oakville Soccer Club opens new home The Oakville Soccer Club (OSC) officially opened its new home -- the state-of-the-art Pine Glen Soccer Centre on Saturday. "We're very excited to help bring this muchneeded amenity to the Oakville community," said Mayor Rob Burton. "It's a win for everyone whether you're interested in sports or leisure. Plans are in the works to expand the uses at Pine Glen Community Park to create wider park appeal and enhance the opportunities for year-round recreation." Under the public-private partnership between the two entities, the Town of Oakville officially owns the Pine Glen Soccer Centre, with the OSC responsible for its ongoing operation and finances as set out in a 20-year operation and licence agreement. The total price tag for the Pine Glen Soccer Centre was $10.9 million -- financed as follows: a $1 million contribution from the Town in lieu of amenities and landscaping previously approved by Council as part of the 2008 budget; a $300,000 upfront contribution from the OSC; and a $9.5 million debenture issued by the Town that will be paid off through the annual fees paid by the OSC. "All of our decisions are geared towards efficiency and simplicity of operation, with a clear focus on community use and our trademark kids first approach," Robin H. Smith, newly elected president of the OSC said. "We needed to ensure we could afford what was being built, while at the same time, living up to the standards of the community and the expectations of our members. The end result has been bang on and the feedback, very positive."
