He added crime rates are also influenced by socio-economic factors beyond police control. The ranking was derived from 2007 crime data from Statistics Canada for police services with the 100 largest populations in the country. The rankings were determined by looking at police services' per capita statistics for six crimes, which were each given equal weight. Halton ranks (out of 100 places, with no. 100 having the least crime): 66th for murder, 74th for motor vehicle theft, 76th for robbery, 81st for aggravated assault, 92nd for break and enter and 97th for sexual assault. In 2007, the Halton Regional Police Service had 563 uniform and 224 civilian members, and responded to 113,203 calls for service, with a cost per capita for policing of $202.52.
