Business awards raise funds for youths The 14th annual Oakville Awards for Business Excellence (OABE) will be presented to Oakville's finest companies on April 2. Proceeds from this event go towards helping youth realize their dreams and potential. To date, more than $350,000 in funding has been donated and invested into the futures of deserving Oakville youth. The disbursement of OABE funds touches many Rotary and Oakville youth programs, including: the Oakville Awards for Academic Excellence (scholarships and bursaries are given to graduating students of Oakville's public and Catholic high schools); Kerr Street Ministries; Oakville Youth Development Centre; Grade Three Dictionary Program; Camp Enterprise; Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA); and Sheridan College (this year's "new" scholarship will recognize a student who has demonstrated excellence in terms of volunteer work within the college). The OABE is spotlighting Camp Enterprise this year -- a motivating and informative four-day program that is founded on the objective to expose, explore, challenge and arouse interest among students on the subject of business and private enterprise. Through guest speakers, presentations, role-play and activities, students and business leaders discuss topics such as business concepts, tools for success, negotiating skills and ethics. Ultimately, they are taught skills to help them navigate through any career path that involves business practice. As feedback indicates, participants of Camp Enterprise are not only inspired academically by their experience, but also emotionally. The Camp Enterprise concept was developed by the Rotary Club of Columbus, Ohio, and the OABE's Camp Enterprise is jointly run by the Rotary Clubs of Oakville and Burlington.
